Temporomandibular Joint dysfunction (TMJ) is a pathology of the jaw joint which connects the temporal bone (skull) to the jaw (mandible). TMJ pain can be caused by a variety of reasons, including arthritic disease pathologies, muscular dysfunction, traumatic incidents, and aging.
Treatment of the Temporomandibular joint includes hands on manual therapy, corrective exercises to ensure proper opening and closing, modality care as necessary, as well as proper anti-inflammatory education and use. If you have jaw pain or popping while chewing you may be suffering from TMJ dysfunction.
