The Edward Newborn Developmental Follow-Up Clinic provides screening of infants born too soon or with medical complications. Our highly qualified multidisciplinary team of therapists provides comprehensive assessments for these high-risk infants.
About our Clinic
Our program works closely with primary care doctors to provide the best care to your child. Our clinical staff sends follow up reports to your child's primary care provider after each visit.
We cover the following:
- Medical, neurological and developmental problems
- Growth and development
- Speech/language delays
- Feeding problems
- Educations for parents
- Referrals for other services as needed
Any infant born showing signs of developmental delay or who is at risk for developmental delay such as:
- Premature birth, 29 6/7 weeks gestation
- Birth weight less than 1250 gms (2 lbs, 12 oz)
- Diagnosis such as Down's Syndrome or other congenital anomaly affecting development
Follow-Up Clinic schedule
We are available to see your infant regularly during the first two years of life. The team will make recommendations as to the frequency of visits.
First visit is 4-8 weeks after discharge. Subsequent visits are typically at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months adjusted age (based on due date).
Our team is made up of professionals who are experts in taking care of at-risk infants. They include:
- Board-certified neonatologist
- Registered nurse
- Speech/language pathologist
- Physical therapist
In addition, we have access to a social worker, case manager, nutrition and Child Life specialist.
What to expect at each clinic
You and your child will meet with our multidisciplinary team of physicians and therapists. At each visit the team provides a thorough developmental and feeding assessment as well as a medical screening.
Home program suggestions are provided to encourage healthy development and optimal outcome.
If onging services are recommended, our case coordinator will provide you with information regarding services and facilities that are close to your home and that best meet your child's needs.
The clinic meets 2-3 times per month, Wednesdays, from 8 am - Noon.
