Vascular Nurse Line
Even though we can do wonders to fix your heart, prevention is still the best medicine. We're a national leader in prevention and education. Tens of thousands have benefited from our screenings and education tools.
A Heart Scan is the safest and most accurate screening tool available for detecting the early build-up of calcium in the coronary arteries, the most common cause of heart disease. It's a simple, painless test that takes just 15 minutes, but it could save your life.
This powerful heart screening also includes a free lipid profile, glucose measurement, blood pressure check, body mass index (BMI) reading and a 10-year risk assessment with a cardiac nurse for heart disease. Nearly 20,000 patients have had a heart scan to-date at Edward, and the patient satisfaction rating is consistently above 90 percent.
To learn more, read our patient stories or the heart screening guidelines below.
Who should have a Heart Scan?
Men over age 40 and women over 45 with one or more of these risk factors:
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Family history of heart disease
For an appointment call 1-877-45-HEART (1-877-454-3278).
Edward also offers an online heart risk assessment tool, Heart Aware edward.org/heartaware, that takes about five minutes to complete. At the end you'll receive a description of your 10-year cardiac disease risk, and follow-up recommendations regarding screenings and lifestyle changes, if needed.
Stroke & Vascular Screening – fast, easy, painless, affordable
Stroke screening typically includes just an ultrasound of the carotid artery in the neck, but there are three areas where plaque has a tendency to form and cause a stroke or aneurysm. Our complete Stroke & Vascular Screening Package takes a look at all three.
1. Carotid artery — We do an ultrasound of the main artery in your neck which leads to the brain.
2. Abdominal aorta — We do an ultrasound of your largest blood vessel, partially located in the abdomen.
3. Legs — We measure blood pressure at your ankle and arms to check the flow of blood into your legs.
Get all three tests for $129 or $45 each. Each test is painless, takes only about 10 minutes, and is performed by a registered vascular technologist.
When you take all stroke and vascular screening tests together, a cardiac nurse also will measure:
- blood pressure
- waist circumference
- body mass index
Afterwards, the nurse will discuss the results with you and assess your 10-year risk for heart disease and stroke. A physician reads the final ultrasound results, which you will receive within 14 business days.
