Older men and women have unique medical and psychological needs. It may be difficult to identify an older adult who is struggling to manage his health. The first sign that something is wrong often occurs when a person suddenly stops caring for himself. Depression, dementia, or aggressions are other indications that something has suddenly changed.
Geriatric services are a growing need in the Chicagoland area. Linden Oaks Hospital at Edward is one of the few hospitals to offer an inpatient program dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of adults 60 years and older. During this time, the patient is closely cared for in our hospital so we can address depression, addiction or other mental health issues and work toward long-term recovery. The program is designed to help individuals feel psychologically better and increase independent daily functioning so they may return to normal living. Programming includes art and music therapy, animal assisted therapy and opportunities to discuss issues such as loneliness and aging in a small group setting.
We also offer a program designed for patients 50 and above. This program helps those who are in need of structure, support, and healing. Individuals experiencing mental health issues - and have the ability to process those issues - are a good match for this program.
