Treatment
It can be overwhelming to receive a cancer diagnosis. "How do I choose a doctor?", "What treatments are available?", "Will insurance cover my treatment?" Our clinical team at Edward Cancer Center – including renowned oncologists and specialty trained Nurse Navigators – guides you through every step in the treatment process – from diagnosis through recovery. We're the most comprehensive center in the region with two locations, Naperville and Plainfield.
Expedited medical opinions
"After receiving a cancer diagnosis, most patients want to start treatment right away, as they should," says Alex Hantel, MD, Director of Medical Oncology for Edward Cancer Center. "Unfortunately many treatment facilities have patients waiting weeks to months just to coordinate the treatment plan."
That is why we've created this service – to help patients get thorough, expedited medical opinions from our Cancer Center team. Fill out our Medical Opinion Request Form and a specialty-trained nurse will contact you within one business day to coordinate your on-site visit with an oncologist, if appropriate. This service is appropriate for those seeking a first/primary medical opinion, or even a second opinion.
How it works:
Follow these 3 basic steps to seek an expedited, in-person medical opinion from Edward Cancer Center oncologists.
The form will take less than five minutes to fill out. You'll answer basic demographic questions and provide information on your diagnosis or problem. The form is appropriate for those seeking a first/primary medical opinion, or even a second opinion.
Our Oncology Nurse Navigator will connect with you through your preferred method of communications – email or phone call – to discuss your request. If appropriate, the Navigator will schedule an expedited, in-person physician consult at Edward Cancer Center in Naperville or Plainfield to provide your medical opinion including an individualized care plan. For those who may be seeking a second opinion, your Nurse Navigator will also work with the first physician's office to obtain the necessary medical information, such as imaging or test results.
Patients scheduled for an in-person physician consult will receive their medical opinion and treatment plan at this appointment. Check your insurance coverage; insurers often cover second opinions. The consult could be with one oncologist, or a multi-disciplinary team depending on the type of cancer. We have subspecialists fighting nearly every form of cancer. For certain cancers we have Multi-Disciplinary Clinics, where our team of doctors gathers in one consultation room to review and discuss and evaluate each patient's case, and develops an individualized treatment plan.
Edward Cancer Centers are the most comprehensive centers in the region and one of the most preferred cancer centers in Illinois (National Research Corp. Survey 2011). Edward offers a full range of diagnostic testing, aggressive treatment, clinical trials, coping and support for the most common cancers including breast, lung, brain and spinal cord, colon, prostate, thyroid, thoracic and other types of cancer. Treatment of cancer may include a combination of chemotherapy, radiation or surgery depending on the type and location of your cancer.
We also offer the most cancer support programs and complementary therapies than any cancer center in the region. We even offer programs for caregivers and children of cancer patients.
