Knowing that each individual will have different learning needs as well as scheduling needs, we offer several options for classes to prepare you for childbirth:
Prepared Childbirth (4 week series) — meets on a weeknight (either a Tues, Wed, or Thurs series) 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm for 4 consecutive weeks (same night of the week x 4 weeks). This is the most comprehensive childbirth class, allowing more time for hands-on practice and discussion with instructor and other classmates. Participants benefit from interaction with other couples in similar circumstances, hearing other perspectives and questions, more practice time, and shorter individual class sessions for the tired mom-to-be.
Prepared Childbirth (2 week series) — meets on Sunday afternoons from 1-5:30 pm for 2 consecutive Sundays. The basic information from the Prepared Childbirth class is covered, but in a faster-paced format. This is a good option for those whose schedule will not allow the weeknight classes.
Prepared Childbirth Marathon — meets on a weekend, Saturday 9 am-2 pm and Sunday 9 am-2 pm. The basic information from the Prepared Childbirth class is covered, but in a faster-paced format. This is another good option for those whose schedule will not allow the weeknight classes.
Prepared Childbirth Express - This childbirth class covers the same topics as the other Prepared Childbirth classes, but you will be mailed the class booklet to read through prior to class. The booklet contains a PIN number so that you can log in to watch online video clips on various topics. In addition, you will come to a Saturday in-person class where you will review the info previously read, practice comfort measures, ask questions of a certified childbirth educator, and take a tour of the OB department and birthing suites. The in-person class meets on a Saturday, with a lunch break provided.
Prepared Childbirth Refresher
This refresher class is a review for parents who have previously attended a Prepared Childbirth class. It is a brief review of labor and delivery, comfort techniques (including breathing and relaxation), with an optional tour of the OB unit at the end of class. This class meets on a Saturday with the Childbirth Express class.
Designed for the family expecting twins or more, this class includes an online video of information important in early pregnancy (nutrition, prenatal care, things to avoid, common complications) and an in-person class which covers information about how labor & birth of multiples differs from that of a single baby, preterm labor & birth, premature babies, a tour of our NICU, and a parent panel of couples who have recently had twins (or more) and have agreed to answer questions and give advice. Please register EARLY in your pregnancy, as the online video class is available as soon as you register. You can plan to take the in-person class in your second trimester. The in-person class is offered every other month either on a Saturday morning or a Tuesday evening. If you have had other pregnancies/births, you may still benefit from this class, as pregnancy and birth of multiples has different needs. If this is your first pregnancy/birth, we strongly recommend that you also take a Prepared Childbirth class (to learn more about labor & birth, comfort measures, postpartum issues), a Babycare PLUS class (to learn how to care for your new babies), and a Breastfeeding class (to help breastfeeding get off to a good start). For more information, contact Susan Bard at 630-527-7685 or email@example.com.
This FREE online class is for those who are anticipating having a scheduled Cesarean delivery at Edward Hospital. It includes a video and photos to familiarize you with what to expect before and after delivery. Recovery and Post-partum issues are also covered. For more information, contact Susan Bard at 630-527-7685 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
