Edward's Community Benefit nearly $100m in FY '12. Edward Hospital & Health Service’s Community Benefit totaled nearly $100 million in fiscal year (FY) 2012 (July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2012), the tenth year in a row the amount has increased and 12.5% higher than FY 2011.
Of that total, $13.4 million was charity care – the cost of medical services for patients provided free or partially reimbursed – through Edward’s Financial Assistance Policy, which calls for all patients to be treated without regard for their ability to pay for services.
One beneficiary of Edward charity care in FY 2012, and in previous years, was Stanislaw (Stan) Parys, a 63-year-old resident of Plainfield who does not have health insurance. The Edward Wound Healing Center has been treating Stan since 2009 for a wound near his left ankle which persisted because of poor blood supply to the area.
Edward’s charity care paid for $206,916 of Stan’s treatment in FY 2012 and nearly $370,000 total since he began receiving care at the Center.
