DuPage Children’s Museum Opens Updated Family Resource Center: Edward Hospital Begins Year-Long Sponsorship

Edward Hospital kicked off a year-long sponsorship of DuPage Children's Museum’s newly renovated Family Resource Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 15. Senior staff members from the hospital and the Museum were on hand to cut the ribbon as a group of excited visitors watched the unveiling.
“More than 6,000 people are connected to the Edward Hospital family and many of them are already bringing their children and grandchildren to the Museum, so this was a natural partnership for us,” said Pam Davis, Edward Hospital president and CEO. “The hospital is committed to partnering with the community and is proud to provide sponsorship for this important area of the Museum.”
Located on the second floor of the Museum, the Family Resource Center is a comfortable place to extend early learning. The area is full of informative parenting materials, picture books and table toys that can be enjoyed by the entire family in this low-key, more intimate space in the Museum.
The newly redecorated space now features more child-sized seating and comfortable, overstuffed chairs, making it the perfect place for reading a story together. Additionally, a Museum staff member, Cindy Moran, brightened up the Family Resource Center with a large-scale, Lazure style mural. Lazure style involves a painting technique that uses many light, subtle layers to build color, creating dimensions of shadow and light.
“We promote literacy throughout the Museum, but the Family Resource Center is one place where we can really focus on it,” said Margaret Hanly, DuPage Children's Museum director of programs. “There are many picture books available to read together as well as multiple planned story telling activities for children and families to enjoy.”
Story telling is scheduled in the Family Resource Center on Fridays from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and presented by Naperville Public Library on the first Wednesday of each month from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Please check the website or visitor services for schedule changes and additional activities.
