Edward Hospital will soon have more room to grow.
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board Tuesday, by a unanimous vote, approved Edward Hospital’s proposal to add two floors to the West Building on its Naperville campus.
“We are pleased with the board’s approval of the project to add two floors of patient beds to the West Building on Edward’s Naperville campus. These new beds are needed to accommodate continued expected growth in our service area,” said Pam Davis, president and CEO of Edward Hospital.
The $63.7 million West Building project will add two floors of beds and includes:
• A new third floor with 36 medical/surgery beds for ortho/spine patients and a physical therapy gym.
• A new fourth floor with 24 Intensive Care Unit beds.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer with completion scheduled for late 2013. The two-floor addition will increase Edward’s bed inventory from 309 to 357, plus the 101 beds of Linden Oaks, Edward’s behavioral health hospital.
Edward Hospital submitted a Certificate of Need application to the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board in December to add the two floors to the West Building.
Hospital officials at the time said the extra space is needed.
“Edward has been at or near capacity on many days over the past year,” Davis said in December.
