Linden Oaks at Edward earns national award for Outstanding Nursing Quality
(Naperville, IL – February 13, 2012) – Linden Oaks at Edward is the first psychiatric hospital in Illinois and the Midwest to be honored with the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Award for Outstanding Nursing Quality.
Linden Oaks was one of six hospitals in the country to earn the award, which is determined by the ANA’s National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). The 2011 honorees were identified from among more than 1,800 hospitals — about one-third of all U.S. hospitals — that report results to the database. The awards were presented at the ANA Nursing Quality Conference in Las Vegas on January 26.
“We’re extremely honored that our quality nursing care has been recognized,” said Mary Lou Mastro, Linden Oaks CEO. “The award confirms for our current patients and those people in the community seeking mental health services, that Linden Oaks is providing the highest level of care.”
“Linden Oaks recognizes the importance of basing its nursing care strategies on data showing what produces the best results for patients,” said ANA President Karen A. Daley, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN. “By winning the NDNQI Award for Outstanding Nursing Quality, Linden Oaks demonstrates it is committed to continuous improvement, outstanding teamwork, effective leadership and evidence-based practices.”
According to the ANA, the award winners demonstrated superior results and sustained improvement in patient outcomes, such as hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, patient falls and infections. The NDNQI program also establishes links between patient outcomes and nurse staffing characteristics, such as nursing care hours, education level, certification and turnover.
Linden Oaks at Edward, with a 101-bed behavioral health hospital on Edward Hospital’s Naperville campus and offices elsewhere in Naperville, Plainfield, Woodridge and St. Charles, uses a combination of inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and traditional outpatient programs to treat adolescents, adults and older adults.
Linden Oaks’ treatment teams are made up of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, including the physicians of Linden Oaks Medical Group and psychologists, clinical social workers, professional counselors, registered nurses and occupational therapists. All are certified and/or licensed in their area of practice.
They treat patients for conditions such as anxiety disorders, chemical dependency, depression, eating disorders, geriatric conditions and self-injury, and provide a full range of services for adolescents.
The Joint Commission has awarded Linden Oaks the Gold Seal of Approval for commitment to excellence in six disease management programs: addiction services, bipolar disorders, depression, eating disorders, geriatrics and self-injury.
