Edward Foundation donates $2.5 million to Edward Hospital programs and services

The Edward Foundation, the charitable fundraising arm of Edward Hospital & Health Services, has donated $2.5 million to Edward programs and services, including $500,000 to fund access to care for the uninsured and working poor; $1 million toward the upgrade of an existing Cardiovascular Operating Room to a Hybrid Operating Room (Hybrid OR) and $1 million to help pay for the construction of three one-story additions to existing inpatient wings at Linden Oaks at Edward.
The Foundation’s $500,000 donation to fund access to care reinforces Edward’s commitment to provide a safety net for patients 24/7/365 regardless of their ability to pay.
“Our Financial Assistance Program allows patients who qualify to concentrate on meeting with their doctors and caregivers, and getting the medical care they need instead of being burdened with worries of whether they can pay,” says Pamela Davis, president & CEO, Edward Hospital.
Edward’s Hybrid OR, the first in Chicago’s west and southwest suburbs, has all the components of a cardiac catheterization lab and a cardiovascular operating room, allowing both open surgical and closed endovascular procedures to be performed in the same space. The Hybrid OR, which will be available for use in the spring, also offers superior imaging capabilities for complex procedures, the ability to convert to an open surgical procedure if needed and the ability to do combined procedures versus moving a patient from one room to another.
The Linden Oaks expansion includes three one-story additions and the renovation of existing inpatient units to meet the increased demand for mental health services. The project is scheduled for completion in late spring 2012.
The Foundation has raised $26.5 million since 1990 in its mission to support Edward’s community healthcare initiatives, including free services and health and wellness programs; centers of excellence like Edward Heart Hospital and Edward Cancer Center, and programs that make Edward unique, like the Ronald McDonald Family Room.
