12. What is a copayment or a deductible and coinsurance?
A co-payment is a flat amount due for each visit to a provider. A deductible is the amount that you must pay before your health plan begins to pay for your bills. Typically, a deductible is a flat dollar amount (i.e. $250.00 or $500.00.) A co-insurance is generally a percentage of covered charges after the deductible is satisfied.
