Q&A: Two’s on the Move 03/26/2013 Q. What is Two’s on the Move?
A. Two’s on the Move is a fun class designed for children who are age 2. For an hour, twice a week, two-year-olds enhance their physical, cognitive, and social development through the use of art materials, age-appropriate toys, music, and movement.
Q. Why should I enroll my child in Two’s on the Move?
A. Based on how the program is structured there are several activities in a one-hour session that fosters learning and development of your two-year old. Here are some of the basic activities your child will participate in and how they’ll benefit:
Children will arrive and say goodbye to parent which fosters independence and helps children conquer their fears and build confidence.
Children will find their colored nametag, which promotes color identification and in this case develops into name recognition.
Children will choose a free play area or tabletop art project. This increases decision making skills. It also encourages using fine motor, imagination, and cognitive skills, and offers socialization opportunities while encouraging children to interact with the world around them. It also teaches children to work in groups, so they learn to share and resolve conflicts.
Clean up time and snack supports self-help skills and provides opportunities for children to learn appropriate group behavior.
Story time provides early literacy skills and creates opportunities for development of language skills.
Participation in music and movement promotes large motor development and helps develop awareness of other children.
Q. Who is the instructor; what is her background?
A. Anne Strom is the instructor of Two’s on the Move at Edward Health & Fitness Centers. She has 13 years of early childhood experience ranging from home daycare to teaching preschool. She has worked at Edward Health & Fitness Centers for several years as a childcare attendant and for the past years as an instructor in Children’s Programming. Strom says, “I am especially interested in learning and teaching children about our environment and finding ways to promote multicultural experiences in the classroom.”
