IN THE HOSPITAL
Our nurses are specially trained to assist you day and night to begin breastfeeding during your hospital stay. Our Mother/Baby staff will be a great help to you as you begin breastfeeding your baby. Here are some of the services available to you in the hospital:
- Referral to a lactation consultant (IBCLC) – If your baby has difficulty breastfeeding, especially after the first 24 hours, your doctor or nurse may recommend a visit from one of our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC). A lactation consultant is in the hospital during daytime hours and she will provide a consult in your room to review your concerns and may assist you with breastfeeding. She will develop a feeding plan with you, which may include an appointment for a return visit to our Breastfeeding Center after discharge.
- Breast pump in your room – A hospital grade pump is available for use in the hospital if there is a medical need to pump your breasts. Your nurse will instruct you in correct use of the pump and you may view instructions on your television on our patient education channel.
- Rent a hospital grade breast pump for use at home after discharge from the mother-baby unit. Click here for more information.
