Edward's emergency rooms in Naperville and Plainfield score in the top 1 percent in the nation in patient satisfaction, according to a recent Press Ganey survey. And people prefer our emergency care over others in Naperville, Plainfield, and surrounding areas in Chicago's Western Suburbs, according to another survey (National Research Corporation, 2010.) How do we do it?
To start with, we've put our heads together to find ways to lessen stress for our ER patients and their families. We provide emergency care treatment in private rooms with space for family members, and attractive features, such as natural light and wood trim. In Naperville we even have a separate Kids' ER for emergency care of children up to 18 years in age. And in both our Naperville and Plainfield emergency rooms we've set up efficient systems so that you can be seen by an ER doctor after a significantly shorter wait time than the national average. Check out Edward ER wait times by phone, text or iPhone app.

Better emergency care systems, experienced staff
Our emergency rooms have 24/7 radiology services and the latest information technology to make sure care is safe, as well as efficient. There's a tracking system for patient test results and other information, and electronic order entry for tests, treatment, prescriptions and other physician orders. This helps avoid errors from misread handwriting.

Both of our emergency rooms are staffed 24/7 by the same group of board-certified emergency physicians -- all highly qualified to treat patients of all ages. We also have more certified emergency nurses than almost any other U.S. hospital.
There is a difference between the two emergency rooms. As Pete Schubel, MD, medical director of the Plainfield ER describes it, "We're similar to the Naperville ER, except we have no beds upstairs." For our Plainfield ER patients who need hospital admission after they're stabilized, we have critical care ambulances on site 24/7 to bring them to Edward in Naperville or other local hospitals.

Edward emergency room/Naperville is a state-designated Level II Trauma Center, meaning it can provide comprehensive medical services to patients suffering traumatic injuries. Edward was named a Stroke Center of Excellence by the Joint Commission, and won Gold Performance Awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get with the Guidelines Program" for achievement in cardiac and stroke patient care. With more than 90,000 visits a year, our ERs are equipped to handle all medical emergencies, injuries and illnesses.
|SPECIAL SERVICE: KIDS' ER
Your physical health
We'd rather see you healthy than in our ER, and one way to do that is to have a primary care physician. By having your own physician, your doctor knows you and your medical history, so you get the right preventive care, treatment, and follow-up care when you need it. Select an Edward Medical Group doctor. Call (630) 527-EMG1 to find the physician who's right for you and your family.
Your mental health
While we all have a pretty good idea when we need to go to the ER for our physical health, when it comes to mental health, it just doesn't seem as clear. A phone call to the Linden Oaks Help Line connects you to counselors 24/7 who can refer you to a behavioral health specialist. Call (630) 305-5500.
