Edward people are legendary for their friendly spirit. Our volunteers are no exception. Volunteering at Edward offers an opportunity to meet new people and experience the joy of reaching out to others.
Major commitment We depend heavily on our volunteers. We have over 800 volunteers in 80 departments who have given more than 106,352 hours of service in the past year. So, we spend a lot of time making sure they understand what we're all about and that they're comfortable here.
Adult Volunteers If you're intersted in becoming a volunteer, the first step is to complete an application, or call the Volunteer Office at (630) 527-3189. An appointment will be scheduled with the Director of Volunteer Services to match time, talent, and availability.
All new volunteers attend a short orientation session and schedule a mandatory 2-step TB screening. We ask for a minimum six-month commitment for all volunteer positions. For further information, or to schedule an appointment, call (630) 527-3189.
Teen Volunteers There are currently over 200 members of the Student Volunteer Program at Edward Hospital. Students must be at least 14 years of age, and in high school or college, in order to volunteer. Each teen works one 2- or 3-hour shift per week. Shifts are scheduled on weekdays from 4-6 p.m. or 6-8 p.m., and also on weekends.
Student volunteer opportunities include staffing the Information Desks, Gift Shop, Flower Shop, and doing clerical work in various departments. Students are not placed in patient care areas. We require a minimum four-month commitment from each of our volunteers.
Our spring enrollment session has ended, and students are currently being placed in volunteer positions. We are not able to accept any more student volunteer applications at this time. We anticipate opening enrollment again in the fall.
