In addition to Edward’s full-time chaplaincy staff, we have a team of 10 to 12 on-call chaplains. This makes it possible for patients, their families and staff to access spiritual care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Chaplain visits are prompted by requests from a patient or family member, or by referral from a physician or nurse. Among the many situations that can trigger such a request are the loss of a loved one or a new diagnosis. The Spiritual Care Department also participates in the Bioethics Committee, whose members are available to help families with difficult end-of-life decisions and other ethical issues relating to the patient's care.
