Edward's Perinatology Center is licensed and experienced in treating the most complicated conditions an expectant woman or newborn may face. In fact, we were the first hospital in DuPage County to deliver and care for quadruplets. During our busiest year, Edward delivered 131 sets of twins and five sets of triplets. To help you prepare for the birth of your multiples, we have a special prenatal class just for you!
Our MULTIPLES CLASS series is a "package deal" consisting of a 3 multiples-specific classes, a prepared childbirth series, a Babycare PLUS class, and a breastfeeding class, all for one fee of $150. The multiples-specific classes cover information regarding multiple pregnancy, complications common to multiples, how labor and birth of multiples differs from that of a singleton, and a parent panel--couples who have recently given birth to multiples here at Edward Hospital who will answer your questions about life with multiples! You will also be registered for a prepared childbirth series which includes information on labor, birth, and postpartum and includes a tour of our Family Birth Center. In addition, you will be registered for a Babycare PLUS class and a Breastfeeding class. You can chose the dates of these childbirth, babycare, and breastfeeding classes from those available on our website. Please call early in your pregnancy to register. Participants are encouraged to attend in their 1st or 2nd trimester. For more specific information about our Multiples Class series, call (630) 527-7685. MULTIPLES REFRESHER is for parents who have previously attended a childbirth class or have already given birth before but are now expecting multiples with this pregnancy. You may select the sessions of the Multiples class (above) which you would like to attend.
Postpartum Support for Parents of Multiples
It's a great idea to get together with other parents of multiples to share stories, get advice, and form playgroups. Edward Hospital offers a "multiples class reunion" about twice a year for those who have delivered multiples here at Edward Hospital. We also have an Edward Multiples facebook page where you can connect with other parents of multiples, ask questions, seek advice, or just share milestones about your multiples.
We encourage you to also find a local twins club to join that will offer support throughout your child's school years. There are several local groups available: (for a complete listing, see Illinois Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs, Inc.)
