Edward will submit your bill directly to Medicare for payment of inpatient and outpatient services. If you provided information about a supplemental insurance, that plan will also be billed. Patients are responsible for payment of deductibles, co-insurance and any charges not covered by Medicare, as outlined in Medicare's exclusion guidelines. For example, cosmetic or dental services are not generally covered by Medicare.
Outpatient services will be screened for medical necessity. If the services your physician has ordered do not meet Medicare's guidelines for medical necessity, you may be required to sign Medicare's Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN), which gives notification that a particular service may not be covered by Medicare and may become the patient's responsibility.
