Edward, which employs 1,340 nurses, was originally recognized as a Magnet hospital in 2005 and is one of only two hospitals in DuPage County and the only one serving Will County to have earned the prestigious re-designation. Twenty hospitals in the Chicago area and 32 in Illinois are Magnet-recognized organizations. Only two percent of the nation's hospitals have achieved Magnet re-designation. Only six percent of the nation's 6,000 hospitals are recognized as Magnet facilities by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Magnet is good news for patients. This third-party endorsement – based on adherence to rigorous standards, the Forces of Magnetism, described in 2,000 pages of documentation and observed in a three-day site visit – allows prospective patients to feel confident in their choice of Edward for their healthcare needs. Why? Studies show that patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes are better at Magnet hospitals.
