Each mom will receive a free blood glucose meter.

After the baby is born:
- Having gestational diabetes increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes for mom later in life.
- Moms can reduce that risk by 50% with eating healthy, maintaining healthy weight and regular physical activity once the baby is born.
- If you are having difficulty with weight loss post-partum, consider returning to see one of our dietitians for medical nutrition therapy.
2. Individual counseling sessions for women with pre-existing type 1 or type 2 diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes: focus on keeping blood glucose readings at target as insulin needs increase during pregnancy. This will be individualized according to your needs to assure a healthy pregnancy.
Type 2 Diabetes: focus on keeping blood glucose readings at target as oral medications or insulin needs increase during pregnancy. This will be individualized according to your needs to assure a healthy pregnancy.
