Providing medical services for sexually abused children
The Care Center at Edward Hospital exists to help children, teens and special needs adults who are known or suspected to be victims of sexual abuse. The center's staff provides evaluation and treatment with an emphasis on compassion. Our goal is to begin to restore the patients and their families to a sense of dignity and well-being.
Concerned family members or friends can make a referral as can schools, social service agencies, law enforcement representatives, healthcare professionals or children's advocacy centers.
Area law enforcement and social service agencies can benefit from the staff's expertise by attending the center's community education and professional training programs.
Focus on Recovery
The emphasis at The Care Center is always on health and well-being. Children who come into the exam feeling worried or ashamed about themselves and their bodies are reassured that they are healthy and perfect. Ample time is given for questions or simply to lend a sympathetic ear. In an era where medical care is often rushed or harried, children and their families are encouraged to express and discuss their concerns. Families leave with a sense of relief after being cared for by compassionate and knowledgeable staff.
The Care Center Staff
Since 1991, the Care Center staff has provided services for children using a combination of technical expertise and a gentle, compassionate approach. The staff's friendly and positive attitude often has children laughing and playing during an exam that many would imagine to be traumatic or painful.
